Fashion Friday: TDF Looks in Outerwear at PFW

Even though there are dozens of ‘fashion weeks’ out there, it is Paris Fashion Week commands the attention of fashionista worldwide and holds a special place in our hearts. Designers from our favourite luxury brands recently presented their Ready-to-Wear lines and this season the outerwear presented had us sitting back and dreaming of being enveloped by warm and stylish beauties.

After scrolling through hours of seductive slideshows on Vogue.com, we present our top designer picks for Fall/Winter 2019 outerwear.

Guests, including front row celebrities Oprah Winfrey and Gwyneth Paltrow, were treated to stellar looks inspired by the British Northern Soul scene of the late 1960s with a liberal dash of 1980s shoulder. The vegan leather tailored coats in multiple colours were the stand-outs with their textures and detailing.

Chanel – A Legacy Collection

Sombre and serene described the Chanel runway as models walked the final runway for the legendary Karl Lagerfeld. Thick fluffy tweed with exaggerated patterns captured a balanced luxe look with movement and drama. Accents of red and blue woven into the signature black and white of Coco Chanel created a youthful allure and certainly will delight a younger audience.

Alexander McQueen – Textiles and Tailoring

With textiles inspired by the geographical regions of Sarah Burton’s youth, the suiting was tailored to perfection. Crisp, sharp, and show-stopping in their elegance. The reimagined tuxedo jacket, the pinstriped suits, and the nipped waists, held the audience rapt.

Loewe – Pleasing Patterns

JW Anderson, the designer who brought us the blue/white pinstripe embroidered craziness of 2018, created a collection for the sophisticated woman looking for adventure. Bold patterns and exaggerated shapes dominated the outerwear. The checkerboard pattern was also present in Chanel’s collection and we hope that it continues! Visually compelling and playful.

Prada – Variation on a Theme

So much black! Miuccia Prada delivered a collection that every woman, no matter age and style, will covet. Structured sophistication with an otherworldly level of tailoring, these three pieces are subtle variations on a classic blazer. Wearable as outerwear, a dress, and topping pants, these three pieces will stand the test of time as pieces that we will never tire of.

Each new season, Paris Fashion Week and the designers showcasing continue to remind us, that there is a style suitable for everyone. Trends may come and go, but the strength of classic pieces with fresh designer interpretation, keeps the runways exciting. Do not be afraid to venture outside your comfort zone and try a variation to what you are familiar with. Add some zing with carefully selected accessories and footwear. A new season is a new reason to be bold!
