Getting Started to Sell With Us

What do we accept?

We accept a wide range of contemporary and high-end brands for consignment, from popular labels like Lululemon and Aritzia to luxury brands such as Chanel, Hermes, and more. Turnabout is very brand driven. Check out our brand list here for more information.  

How should I prepare items for consignment?

Items should be brought to us cleaned and in good condition, with no stains, rips, pilling, missing buttons, etc. For first-time consignors, bring 1-2 medium bags for assessment.

Note: Our Commercial Drive and Fraser Street locations do not offer sell / consign / trade.

How much can I bring?

For your first visit, we recommend bringing a maximum of two small shopping bags containing your best curated selection. We are very selective and look for styles and brands that sell well in our store.

Do you have minimums to start an account?

Yes, you could bring one coveted designer item or up to 15 or more pieces. Buyouts must total a minimum of $100 in value to you. We also offer consignment if we anticipate you'll earn at least $500 in a season.

Do I need an appointment?

No, our Turnabout stores operate on a walk-in basis, first come, first served, Tuesday through Saturday from 11 AM to 5 PM. For 50 items or more, or for designer pricing inquiries, please contact us.

Note: Our Commercial Drive and Fraser Street locations do not offer sell / consign / trade services.

Does each location take the same items?

Yes, all Turnabout locations accept the same coveted brands, labels, and styles. However, we recognize that each store may sell a different variety of items. Our buyers can accept items for all stores, and we're happy to move merchandise to the location that will perform best for you.

Note: Our Commercial Drive and Fraser Street locations do not offer sell / consign / trade.

Can I bring my items to another location if one store rejects them?

No. All our stores accept the same items. We can only evaluate your items once at one location. Our shops are very busy, and we aim to assist as many customers as possible.

Pricing and Evaluation

How do you price? How do you determine the resale value of an item?

Our resale pricing is based on current market trends, considering:

  • Comparable market value
  • Style
  • Condition
  • Exclusivity

Coveted brands like Hermès, Chanel, Cartier, and Gucci tend to hold their resale value better than others. Items in pristine condition also maintain a higher resale value compared to those showing wear. Sought-after, rare, or discontinued items may command higher prices.

What Brands do you not take? Are there certain items you don’t accept?

We don't accept fast fashion brands such as:

  • Joe Fresh
  • Garage
  • H&M
  • Dynamite
  • Gap
  • Shein

Do you accept vintage items?

Only Chanel and similar brands. For more information on specific brands or items, please contact a Turnabout buyer. Contact us.

What are you looking for right now?

We accept seasonal items as follows:

  • Spring/Summer: January to July
  • Fall/Winter: August to December

Consignment and Selling Process

How does the sliding scale work for buyouts?

Our buyout offers are based on a sliding scale that considers:

  • Price point
  • Brand
  • Desirability of the item

Will my items go on sale?

Yes, all items are subject to sales and markdowns as needed.

What happens if my consigned items don't sell?

Items priced under $100 that remain unsold by the end of the season are subject to automatic donation.

Payments and Contracts

How do I receive payment?

For consignment sales, please refer to our consignment contract.

For buyouts, payment methods depend on the amount:

  • Cash
  • Store credit
  • Cheque
  • E-transfer

How and when will I get paid for my consigned items?

Payments are made every three months for accounts with a balance over $50.00. If your balance is $500.00 or more, you can request a cheque at any time with a week's notice. Cheques can be collected at the Turnabout location where you consigned, or you can use your balance for in-store purchases.

What is the minimum payout for consignment accounts?

Consignment accounts must accumulate $300.00 or more per quarterly payout period.

What is the minimum value for outright buys?

The minimum value for outright buys is $100.00.

Can I use my earnings for purchases in Turnabout stores?

Yes, any money owed to you from consignment sales can be used for shopping at any of our store locations.

Is a contract required for consigning with Turnabout?

Yes, consignors are required to sign a contract before we can process their items. This contract outlines the terms and conditions of our consignment agreement. See the consignment contract here.

Do outright buys require any identification?

For outright buys, consignors need to provide identification along with our acceptance form as part of the transaction process.

Community Contribution

How does Turnabout contribute to the community?

We contribute to the community through Turnabout Community, our fundraising shop. Proceeds support local organizations like Dress for Success, Cause We Care, Big Sisters Sources, and others.

Consignor Account Management

How do I access my consignor account?

Access your consignor account through our online Consignor Login. Your initial login credentials are your email address. Upon first login, you’ll be prompted to create a new, secure password for ongoing access.

What can I track through my consignor account?

Through your consignor account, you can easily track the status of your consigned items, view your sales, and monitor your account balance. This platform provides real-time updates and detailed information about your consignment activities.

How often is the information in my consignor account updated?

Your consignor account is updated in real-time, ensuring that you always have the most current information regarding your consigned items and sales.
